Note: Some words are not showed to me in English, so I will try to suppose how that words figure out.
Verification:
1) Write a new PAGE (not Post)
2) Paste on the title (subject) the exact code that you get from Google Webmaster Tools option “Upload an HTML file” (this is the verification method you have to choose). Example of the code:
google4f645e3adsdaa48g3a41z.html
3) Click to publish it.
4) Ask Google to verify your Blog.
Just that! It works for me.

I tried the above method and it doesn’t work for me. It keeps saying “We’ve detected that your verification file returns a status of 404 (Not found) in the header.” I followed the instructions exactly and it just won’t work. I think I’ll go to bed and try again in the morning.

Hmmmm…. I’ve made the page as you described, but the only way to get Google to have it verified was to put it into the main page. It’s looking rather awful in my navigation bar. Keeping it private was no solution either and having it under about didn’t work for me. Once it was verified, I placed it in the about me section, but I wonder if this will be good enough for Google…. Any more tips?

Handy tip on getting Google Webmaster tools to verify your site « Dasher’s Corner
[...] Posted by Dasher on Monday 26th November, 2007 Googles webmaster tools have a handy facility to provide some detailed information about websites and blogs that you run. To get it working you need to verify your site using either a HTML file or modifying the meta tags – not a simple thing to achive with a hosted blog. However tigredefogo has a handy and effective tip here! [...]

Hi, Christian, let´s try it again. Remember that guide is for who has a “WordPress.com” (not a “WordPress.org”) blog.
(This is from Google):
“To verify that you own a site, you first must add a site to your Google Webmaster Tools account. From the Dashboard of Google Webmaster Tools, click on the “verify” link in the “Site Verified?” column.
From the verification page, you can choose the verification method that works best for you.
Add a meta tag – We will ask you to add a META tag with a unique value to your site’s home page.
or
Upload an HTML file – We will ask you to create a file with a specific name and upload it to a specific directory.”
(This is from me)
On WordPress.com website:
1) Write a new “PAGE” (not a Post)
Note: Before you publish the PAGE you can choose to place that PAGE on the ABOUT section, so it will not be showed in the front page of your blog.
2) Paste on the title (subject) the exact code that you get from Google Webmaster Tools option called “Upload an HTML file” (this is the verification method you have to choose). Example of the code:
google4f645e3adsdaa48g3a41z.html
3) Click to publish it.
On Google Webmaster Tools website:
4) Ask Google to verify your Blog.
I hope it helps and works.

Pretty clever my friend but how did you prevent that page from showing in your navigation bar? In my case, after I verified, I went back and deleted that page and it was working for a while. Only, a week or so later, I think Google tried to re-verify and when they couldn’t find the page, obviously cause I deleted it, they reverted me to unverified status.
